Wantage Flood Resilience – Community Action Underway
Flooding is becoming a growing concern for Wantage and nearby areas. In response, a local flood resilience group has been established to bring together residents, experts, and councillors to help the community prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood events.
The group is working in partnership with the Town Council, neighbouring parishes, the Letcombe Brook Project, and local agencies to coordinate practical action and improve communication around flood risk.
A public meeting was held on 22 July 2025 at The Beacon, opened by Cllr Iain Cameron (Chair). (Agenda can be accessed here). The meeting brought together local residents, flood experts, and representatives from the Hanney Flood Group to share experience, highlight local issues, and encourage people to get involved.
How You Can Help
The group is now looking for local residents to:
• Join the new Flood Emergency Action Group
A volunteer team to help prepare for and respond during flood events in Wantage
and surrounding areas.
• Share details of past or recent flooding
Help us build a detailed local flood history to support funding bids, planning decisions, and infrastructure improvements.
Sign up to the flood group mailing list for regular updates by emailing communications@wantagetowncouncil.gov.uk.
Together, we can take practical steps to protect homes, strengthen local knowledge, and improve long-term flood resilience in our community.
