Biography: Iain Cameron
I am both honoured and humbled to be elected Mayor by my Town Council colleagues. I thank my predecessors, Mayors Angela Dunford and Jim Sibbald, for their work and I fully intend to build on their work for the town during my own period of office. I will be ably supported in my work by the Deputy- Mayor Councillor Chris Walters. Please get in touch if there is an event or celebrations in the town which you would like me to support with my presence.
As Mayor will act to the best of my ability in the interests of the Town and residents and businesses and represent the Town at events both in and beyond Wantage. Wantage, like many towns, faces many challenges and I will work with my Town Council colleagues to address these.
I was born in Edinburgh and have lived in Wantage for over 30 years and my children were largely brought up in the town. My career has been entirely spent in scientific research and I became a Town Councillor after retiring from paid work. I represent the Town Council as Chair of Trustees at the Vale and Downland Museum and I am also an active volunteer at Didcot Railway Centre in Didcot.
The Mayor traditionally nominates local organisations to be Mayor’s Charities’. The first I have chosen is Parkinson’s.Me which supports individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s. I n particular they run the Parkinson’s.me garden located in West Lockinge which is readily accessible from Wantage. I intend to identify another Mayor’s Charity in due course.
