Wantage Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Cllr Iain Cameron as the new Mayor of Wantage. He will be supported in his civic duties by Cllr Chris Walters, who has been appointed Deputy Mayor for the 2025–2026 municipal year.
Cllr Cameron, a long-standing member of the Council and recent deputy-Mayor, brings valuable experience in local government, public service, community organisations and a commitment to representing the interests of the Wantage community. Cllr Walters also brings dedication to public service and is well positioned to support the Mayor throughout the year.
The Council extends its sincere thanks to Cllr Angela Dunford, the outgoing Mayor, for her dedication and contributions over the past two years.
Speaking following his appointment, Mayor Cllr Cameron said: “I am both honoured and humbled to be elected Mayor by my Town Council colleagues. As Mayor I will, to the best of my ability, act in the interests of the Town’s residents and businesses and represent the Town at events both in and beyond Wantage. The Mayor traditionally nominates local organisations to be Mayor’s Charities’ and the first I have chosen is Parkinson’s.Me”
Deputy Mayor Cllr Chris Walters said: “I am honoured and delighted to have been elected Deputy Mayor by fellow Wantage Town Councillors. In addition to supporting the Mayor, I shall continue to work hard for local organisations such as VCI and Sustainable Wantage.”
The official mayor-making ceremony took place at the Annual Meeting of Wantage Town Council on 12 May 2025, during which both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were formally installed.
